Windfarm

Makara West Wind Windfarm

Project Overview: Bulk earthworks of 675,000m3 in total on very steep ground and hard rock. 15km of subgrade preparation. Very difficult access for the construction of the erosion and sediment control structures, structures had to last for over a year so maintenance of the structures occurred after every rain event. Very windy site with extreme weather conditions, dust minimisation was essential.

Drainage

  • Large drainage component to job

  • Laying of stormwater pipes from 300mm diameter to 1500mm diameter.

  • Installation of headwalls and outlet structures including all associated concrete work.

  • Extended an existing 1200mm twin culvert and relocated a twin headwall.

  • Manage existing stream so that we were not working in live water – diversions had to happen while culverts were put in place

  • Very steep drainage lines – 2 pipelines at grade of 1&1/2:1
