Mill Creek Windfarm

Project Overview: The mill creek Construction of access roading, bulk earthworks, drainage and environmental controls for the 26 turbine Mill Creek windfarm. West Coast of the north island between Wellington and Porirua.

Earthworks were completed in 12 months and during winter with some steep terrain. Innovative construction methods allowed work to progress during the wet seasons.

Environmental

  • Weekly audits carried out by GWRC and Higgins

  • 160 Decanting Earth Bunds constructed and maintained in tricky conditions

  • Batter stabilisation with coconut matting

  • Hay mulching waste dumps quickly to minimise open areas

Earthworks

  • 21km of road was constructed

  • 296,000m3 of cut to fill

  • 437,000m3 of cut to waste

  • 50,000m3 of topsoil

  • 50,000m3 of undercut

  • Construction of lay down area for Concrete Plant

  • Access road through Spicer landfill and neighbouring Spicer forest
