SH1 Waiauti Realignment

Project Overview: Realignment of SH1 Waiauti South of Manakau. Work included earthworks, clearing, stormwater & channel scour protection and demolition. The demolition of the existing SH1 bridge had to happen in two parts. the new alignment was over the existing bridge. This meant half the bridge had to be demolished while cars were running on the other half of the bridge in order for the construction to continue this involved very tight working spaces. Goodmans had to install and maintain all sediment control measures.

Clearing

  • Tree felling and removal of trees, including stumps

  • Removal of over 1km of fencing

  • All vegetation clearing

Earthworks

  • 10,000m3 topsoil strip and stockpile

  • 4,000m3 cut to waste

  • 3,500m3 cut to landscape

  • 16,000m3 imported fill

  • 3,200m3 topsoil respread

  • Work included all subgrade preparation and salvaging road metal for reuse.
