Mackays to Peka Peka Expressway
Project Overview: Goodmans worked as a Subcontractor to M2PP Alliance. Bulk earthworks, drainage, clearing, and environmental controls for construction of new 18km expressway in Kapiti. Works also included early involvement in pre planning during the consent stage due to Goodman’s local knowledge, extensive peat dig out and replace, cycleway construction and wetland shaping.
Interesting Points
Extensive tree felling across the entire site
Over 7,000 stumps cut up and mulched. No stumps buried.
Mulch reused as temporary and permanent stabilisation.
Total earthworks volume including peat excavate and replace, topsoil handling, cut to fill in sand, unsuitable, and other miscellaneous earthworks was over 5,800,000m3.
Challenging materials including very deep peat excavations and sand mining.
Stream diversions, MSE wall construction and work on bridge abutments.
Ground breaking GPS machine automation, mapping and as-built information. Automatic transfer of the information from the designer to the machine with real time as-built data passed back. Not a peg used on site with amazing accuracy.
