SH1 Atiamuri Bridge Replacement

Project Overview: Bulk earthworks, excavation of abutments, removal of existing pavement, drainage and environmental controls. Some very steep terrain, a 20T digger was hooked onto a winch dozer to complete some work. Large environmental works: 450m of silt fencing installed, 3.5Ha of SRP’s, 3 DEB’s. Was named site of the year for consistently committing to, and achieving a high standard of erosion and sediment control on earthworks.

Interesting Points

  • 250,000 m3 of earthworks consisting of cut to fill, cut to waste and undercuts

  • There was a number of different materials on this site including ash, ignimbrite rock, pumice and rhyolite

  • 1 kilometre of road widening for installation of passing lane

  • Construction of a permanent pond on the SH1/SH30 intersection

  • Tomo excavation and recompaction
