SH57 Laws Hill Reconstruction

Project Overview: 3.5km of State Highway 57 realignment. Works included temporary traffic management, earthworks, roading construction, drainage, bridging and retaining wall construction, landscape work, co-operative environment / partnership. Installation and management of two temporary roads. Large fills and high cut batters. Extremely wet soil conditions, 10 major culvert installations. 4km of kerb and channel and associated sumps. 2km of subsoil drainage. Hydroseeding of cut batters. Clearing of pine trees and scrub.

Earthworks

  • 300,000m3 cut to fill in wet clay and loess

  • 250,000m3 cut to waste

  • 80% Greenfield diversion

  • High inflow of ground water

  • Surcharging of fills and settlement periods

  • Monitoring of fill settlement

  • Geotextile foundations
